Mas des Grailles, our home in France, the perfect holiday hideaway, is a 200 year old home in the heart of the magnificent Cevennes National Park.

Access by locked private drive; magnificent views over the valley. Extensive natural grounds, fruit trees, willow, oak, mimosa, chestnut, indigenous pine.

Two large terraces (1 covered) with tables & chairs allowing meals to be taken outside. Fully equipped kitchen/dining area, archway to sitting room with both antique leather & modern comfortable sofas & log-burner.

Upstairs, 2 bedrooms, shower room, loo. On the independent lower ground floor (outside steps) is a twin bed (+1 folding) ensuite room, tea & coffee making facilities & own garden furniture.

Walking & biking from the door. Buzzard, deer, red squirrel and wild boar visit regularly. Superb clear river swimming, golf. Avignon, Uzes, Nimes, Montpellier, Orange, Arles, Camarague all easily accessible. Wonderful local markets, museums. Only 1.5 hr from Le Grau du Roi on the Med.

Local Area:

A typical Cevenol mas in a truly unspoilt area in the centre of the South of France, renowned by Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Travels with a Donkey'. The hills of the Cevennes National Park are far enough from the frenzy of the Mediterranean coast yet only just over an hour away.

Steeped in history, Portes is North West of Nimes nestling in the foothills of the Cevennes between the town of Ales to the south and the villages of Chamborigaud and Genolhac to the north.

The stunning Chateau de Portes (See below image) dates back to the Middle Ages. Magnificent views.

The nearest town is Ales (15 minutes) with all the modern facilities associated with a busy town. Shops in Portes are within walking distance: there is a bar/tabac, bakery & newly-refurbished hotel-restaurant.

Three good restaurants within a 10 minute drive. Supermarkets can be found in Chamborigaud or La Grand'Combe 10 minutes away.

Museums, mines, caves, rivers and lakes, golf, horse & donkey rides, tennis, swimming are all close by.

We are located to the North West of Nimes.

Ryanair has flights from Stansted to 'Nimes' (1 hour away) or Air France & British Airways fly to 'Montpellier' (1.25 hours).

'Portes' is situated between the town of 'Ales' to the south and the villages of 'Chamborigaud' and 'Genolhac' to the north in the heart of the 'Cevennes National Park'.

Things to do:

1) Golf - More and more golf courses are springing up in the area

and you would have a good choice or 3 or 4 within 30

minutes drive. The nearest is the Golf d'Ales Ribaute

which is only 10 minutes from Anduze. To the north there

is Golf de La Garde-Guerin at Villefort. Further details
